Strengthening the humanitarian innovation system

‘If we don’t innovate we won’t survive!’ How often have you heard that truism, and watched heads nodding in the conference room as they agree with the obvious point? Of course in the business world it’s a powerful challenge – but in the humanitarian sector it takes on a more urgent and literal meaning. In the aftermath of natural disasters, like earthquakes or tidal waves, or sadly, as a consequence of man-made conflicts the issue of solving problems fast and effectively really is often one of life or death.

We have been working for the UK’s Department for International Development on a project trying to understand how innovation happens in this field and how the innovation ecosystem might be strengthened.  Our report on this project is now available.  You can download it here.
